Implants
There can be consequences when a tooth is lost: the adjacent teeth can tip, the opposing teeth can drift towards the missing space, the ability to chew on both sides of the mouth can be reduced, and bone will be lost where the tooth was extracted. But not to worry, there is a solution.
An alternative for replacing missing teeth is a dental implant, a titanium root that is placed in the bone that acts like the root of a tooth. A crown or a bridge can then be cemented over the implant to replace the tooth, eliminating any need for an appliance that must be taken in and out of the mouth as well as the need to alter any adjacent teeth.
Implants can replace one tooth or multiple teeth. Evidence indicates that implants are a more predictable and longer lasting alternative than bridges. Contact Dr. Calcagno's office to find out if implants are the right alternative for you.
